Often times you will hear people say that the book of psalms is a book of spells, but its much more than that. So much guidance, clarity, truth, and redemption can be found in the psalms and it can truly be a spiritual path and practice all on its own. I used to do a lot of bible magic when I first started my spiritual journey however, in recent years I have strayed away from it. Not for any particular reason other than just trying other things and seeing what feels right to me. This past year though I found myself in some of the most depressed, repressed, and disempowered states. Between feeling like a failure at times due to the inconsistencies of entrepreneurship, questioning my purpose and direction and seeking validation in the wrong places, coming into the realization that I had to let hyper-independence go in order to be received and loved in the manner that I wanted, and coming through all the upheaval and emotions the last year of my Saturn return has sent me through; I had plenty of days where I just didn't recall what I was doing it all for and questioned why I am here.
It is in these time when I feel low, overwhelmed, and drained that I go to my great grandmother and ask her for a word and 80% of the time she will give it straight from the KJV bible. One day I woke up and I just started seeing, I went to my altar and I prayed I asked God to show me what I was missing, I declared that by the blood of my ancestors and the strength of my soul I would not give up. My great grandmother's voice came in and said open your bible to psalms 91 and declare it aloud in strength, honor and glory, then read psalms 119, write it down and declare it all to be so. I listened and when I tell yall over the next couple of weeks my depression, lack of productivity, and pessimism dissipated drastically. I mean it! No exaggeration really as if by magic things just started getting better.
After that I decided to put a psalm in every new and full moon retreat I hosted and pick a psalm to work with each month or couple of months until I started to see results. I plan to continue this practice going into the new year and take it to the next level so I thought I would share the best methods and practices for taking on psalms as an initiatory path or engaging in psalmic ritual in general.
The first thing you want to do is choose your psalm, There are plenty of books, resource, and websites available to give you an in depth perspective of the psalms and their uses. One of my favorites is Power of the Psalms by Anna Riva. I will say that the psalms mostly fall under three categories. The contractual psalms like psalms 91,23, and 46. These are psalms that you want to work on a daily or consistent basis. These are psalms that help remind you of your birthrights and invoke the energy of resolution, protection, and abundance. Next, you have your purification psalms like psalms 6, 51, and 102. These psalms invoke cleaning, clarity, and direction and you should choose at least one purification psalm to work with at least once per week. Lastly, we have our psalms of gratitude and acceptance. Psalms like 66,150,119, and 107. These psalms encourage gratitude, lasting results, success, honor, and glory. At the end of this blog I will be providing a list of 23 psalms and their uses which should help out too.
Once you have chosen your psalm you want to say it aloud all the way through. This activated the incantation, next you want to read it through again slowly breaking down the lines of the psalm and how they may apply to your current situation. After you have done that wire the psalm down as is, then with your edits, notes, and or added intentions. From there, you are pretty much done and you will recite the psalm and its edited version daily, weekly, monthly or until you begin to see results. Of course you can add candles, herbs, incense, and baths to the process, but the psalm alone is also just fine. In 2023 I will be doing psalms magic with one psalm per month for my moon child tribe, and creating videos where I recite the psalm, break it down, and add to stand showing you all how to close out the rituals. Below you will find a list of 23 psalms. I will be choosing 12 from this list.
